Joan of Arc Park

Joan of Arc Park serves as a quiet, tree-lined sanctuary located on a median of Riverside Drive between ninety-first and ninety-fifth streets. The site is anchored by a striking bronze equestrian statue of the French heroine, which was unveiled in nineteen fifteen as the first public monument in New York City dedicated to a non-fictional woman. The sculptor, Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington, modeled the bronze horse after a real animal and famously had her niece pose on a barrel to capture the figure of the young warrior.
