26, 28, and 30 Jones Street

These three unassuming brick rowhouses at twenty-six, twenty-eight, and thirty Jones Street stand as a preserved fragment of the mid-nineteenth century. Completed in eighteen forty-four, they represent the Greek Revival style that once defined much of this neighborhood, characterized by their modest scale, low stoops, and delicate dentilled cornices. While the rest of Manhattan surged upward with the grid plan, this block retained the low-slung, residential character of a much older city.
