Southport Yacht Club

The Southport Yacht Club features a long, white timber jetty that stretches deep into the Broadwater, distinct from the surrounding concrete developments. It began in nineteen forty-six when a small group of boat owners met at a local hotel to organize a racing program. They lacked a clubhouse, so members hauled their vessels onto the sandy banks nearby to maintain them. The organization eventually secured this permanent waterfront site, turning those makeshift gatherings into a center for international sailing regattas.
