The Chateau Beachside stands out because of its stark, mid-century tower rising directly against the beachfront. Built in the late nineteen sixties, the hotel marked a shift in how developers approached the Gold Coast shoreline. Before the concrete foundations set, this stretch of sand hosted the Surfers Paradise Hotel, a timber structure that defined local social life for decades. When the old hotel burned down, the developers replaced its classic wooden veranda style with the vertical, modernist concrete block that remains here today.
