Banff National Park Administration Building

The Banff National Park Administration Building features a high, square tower topped by a distinctive hipped roof that anchors the west end of town. Built in nineteen thirty-six, the structure replaced a much smaller log cabin office as the park grew in popularity. Architect Harold Caven Waugh designed the building using heavy limestone blocks hauled from nearby quarries. Inside, park staff managed permits and town infrastructure, a task that became chaotic during the busy summer months when thousands of visitors arrived by rail.
