St. George's in the Pines Anglican Church

The log walls and steep, shingled roof of St. George’s in the Pines mimic the surrounding mountain slopes. Built in eighteen eighty-nine, this chapel provided a place for the earliest tourists in Banff to gather. Its heavy timber frame came from local spruce, and the interior retains the original pine pews. When the first organ proved too heavy to transport up the mountain, a woman named Agnes Hately famously played a small harmonium instead, hauling it through the rugged pass by carriage.
