A cast-iron balcony and a striking facade of faded, ochre-colored plaster mark the entrance to the Restaurante Peluquería Francesa. Inside, the shop operates as both a vintage barbershop and a restaurant filled with glass cases of antique medical tools, ceramic dolls, and dusty perfume bottles. The French barber Jean Maurice Dubois opened this business in eighteen sixty-eight. He catered to Santiago’s elite, shaving the beards of presidents while his wife maintained the salon downstairs.
