Ex Teatro Carrera

cultural

The Ex Teatro Carrera stands out on the Avenida Alameda with a facade of dark, weathered stone and distinct geometric Art Deco lines. Originally built in nineteen twenty-seven, it functioned as the premier cinema house for Santiago’s elite. During its opening night, the projectionist accidentally screened a film reel in reverse, causing the sophisticated crowd to roar with laughter before the manager scrambled to fix the error. Today, the theater sits boarded up, its grand entrance now overshadowed by the heavy flow of city traffic.
