Citizenship Park

park garden

The plaza contains a massive, cast-iron sculpture of an open book, its pages carved with the text of the Chilean Constitution. It sits directly across from the La Moneda Palace, the seat of the executive branch. In the nineteen seventies, this space housed the offices of the Ministry of Public Works, which were gutted and demolished during the military coup. For years, the site remained a vacant, scarred gap in the city center until it finally became this public park in two thousand four.
