Plaza de la Floresta centers on a dense, overgrown cluster of mature trees that keeps the middle of the space permanently shadowed. During the nineteen thirties, this area was a quiet residential outpost planned for the city’s growing middle class. Architecturally, the neighborhood became a playground for experimental concrete houses, but this plaza served as the neighborhood’s living room. Residents gathered here to trade local gossip while the city around them sprawled into the hills and swallowed the surrounding dairy farms.
