Plaza de San Blas

The Plaza de San Blas centers on a white fountain and a stone church that dates back to the mid-sixteenth century. Before the Spanish arrived, this high ground served as an indigenous settlement known as Templo del Sol, where the local people tracked the sun and seasons. When the colonial architects built the current church, they laid the foundation directly over the earlier site. Today, the space functions as a neighborhood crossroads, marked by the persistent shadow of the bell tower.
