The Escaliers du Cours Julien are covered in layers of street art that change every few weeks. This long, steep staircase connects the lower streets of Marseille to the higher Cours Julien plateau. Before the nineteen seventies, this neighborhood was a quiet wholesale market district. Local artists moved into the empty warehouses, painted these steps, and turned the path into a living canvas. The paint is thick, crusted over years of overlapping tags, murals, and commissioned pieces that spill onto the surrounding walls.
