Rue Crudère

Rue Crudère marks the center of a former industrial passage that evolved into a densely packed, steep climb of stairs and small storefronts. Most of the buildings date to the mid-nineteenth century, built for workers who needed proximity to the nearby workshops and kilns. The street narrowness forced residents to socialize on their doorsteps, creating a tight-knit neighborhood culture. Today, the street remains defined by those uneven stone stairs, which were designed specifically to manage the sharp incline toward the Cours Julien.
