Maison Empereur sits on the Rue d'Aubagne with a storefront painted in a deep, vintage blue. It functions as a hardware store that has stayed in the same family since eighteen twenty-seven. Seven generations of the Empereur family have managed these aisles, keeping shelves stocked with everything from traditional copper cookware to heavy-duty Marseille soap. During the German occupation in the nineteen forties, the family hid members of the French Resistance behind the heavy iron shutters that still guard the storefront today.
