Église Saint-Laurent

The bell tower of the Église Saint-Laurent stands apart from the main building, linked only by a narrow stone bridge. Built in the twelfth century, this church served the sailors and fishermen of the Saint-Jean neighborhood for generations. When the occupiers demolished much of the surrounding old town during the second world war, they left this church intact. It remains a rare survivor of the medieval quarter, perched on the rocky ridge that marks the northern edge of the Old Port.
