Théâtre Antoine-Simone Berriau

The Théâtre Antoine is defined by its ornate, cream-colored facade topped with the carved name of the house in bold lettering. Originally opened in eighteen sixty-six as the Théâtre des Menus-Plaisirs, it became a laboratory for naturalism under the actor André Antoine. He famously turned his back to the audience to create the illusion of a fourth wall, forcing actors to perform as if they were in their own living rooms. The theater remains a home for bold, contemporary stage productions today.
