Gare de la Bastille

The Gare de la Bastille features a wide, pale stone facade with a high central clock and large arched windows that once welcomed steam trains from the eastern suburbs. Built in eighteen fifty-nine, this terminal served commuters for over a century until its closure in nineteen sixty-nine. Architecturally, it stands out for its grand, classic proportions that contrast with the modern opera house occupying the site today. Workers demolished the entire structure in nineteen eighty-four to make room for that newer performance venue.
