Rue Crémieux stands out because it is a single cobblestone street lined with pastel-colored houses, completely unlike the tall, cream-colored stone buildings found elsewhere in Paris. Originally built in eighteen sixty-five as workers' housing, it offered modest, affordable homes for laborers. These days, the residents fight to keep tourists from taking photos on their doorsteps. One resident even started an Instagram account specifically to post pictures of the photographers who ignore the signs asking for privacy.
