Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens

The Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens occupies a narrow site on the Rue Monsigny with a front facade dominated by three arched doorways and a distinctive wrought-iron canopy. Jacques Offenbach founded this theater in eighteen fifty-five to stage small-scale musical comedies. When the original tiny venue proved too cramped for his ambitions, he commissioned this current building which opened in eighteen seventy-six. The first night of the house featured a comedy that ran for months, securing the theater a permanent place in Parisian stage history.
