The Port-Royal RER station features a simple stone plaque near the ticket barriers that notes a specific date. On December third, nineteen ninety-six, a bomb exploded on a crowded train as it pulled into this platform. Four people died and over one hundred and seventy were injured. The blast was part of a series of attacks across the Paris transit network that autumn. Emergency workers treated the wounded right here on the tiles of the station floor before moving them to nearby hospitals.
