Fontaine de Léda

The Fontainede Léda features a limestone bas-relief depicting Leda and the Swan, tucked against a high, vine-covered wall. Originally commissioned in eighteen oh six for a street corner in the Rue du Regard, the fountain survived the destruction of its original home during the expansion of the Rue de Rennes. In eighteen sixty-two, laborers moved the sculpture block by block to this quiet garden corner. The sculptor Achille Valois carved the scene from Greek mythology, placing it where water once flowed from a carved spout.
