Porte Saint-Honoré

The Porte Saint-Honoré remains a ghost in the street grid of Paris. It stood as the western gateway in the wall built by King Charles the Fifth during the fourteenth century. When King Louis the Fourteenth ordered the city walls leveled to create grand boulevards, the gate was dismantled. Today, the location is marked only by a plaque near the intersection of rue Saint-Honoré and rue de l'Arbre-Sec, tracing where the heavy stone fortifications once controlled every traveler entering the capital.
