The Éden-Théâtre stands out because of its towering, ornate facade decorated with vibrant mosaic tiles and exotic, Orientalist architectural details. Opened in eighteen eighty-three, this venue featured a massive stage capable of housing entire forests and even water tanks for aquatic ballets. When the manager, William Bush, struggled to keep the theater profitable, he famously sold the building to a circus troupe. The former stage hosted lions and horses until fire gutted the interior during a renovation in eighteen ninety-four.
