The Hôtel Thellusson features a triumphal arch serving as the main entrance, standing out from the surrounding neighborhood with its neoclassical proportions. Built in seventeen eighty for the wealthy Marie-Jeanne Girardot de Vermenoux, the mansion earned immediate fame for a daring subterranean garden. Guests entered through a dark tunnel to emerge into a sunken, sunlit courtyard filled with exotic plants. The house survived the French Revolution, only to be demolished in eighteen twenty-three to extend a street through the middle of the property.
