Fontaine de Charonne

The Fontaine de Charonne stands out with a bronze mascaron, a face carved in the shape of a lion, spitting water into a rounded stone basin. Designed by architect Jean Beausire in seventeen hundred and six, it served as one of the many public water sources ordered by the city to provide fresh supply to local residents. During the French Revolution, the water here ran dry for weeks when a neighborhood dispute left the main pipe blocked by debris from construction.
