Fontaine Trogneux (1719 - 1721)

The Fontaine Trogneux features a tall, narrow stone facade topped with a curved pediment, tucked directly into the corner of the masonry where Rue de Charonne meets Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine. Built in seventeen nineteen, it served as a public water source for a neighborhood then dominated by furniture makers and artisans. A young apprentice named Jean-Baptiste once accidentally shattered his heavy wooden water bucket against the basin here, sparking a neighborhood brawl over water rights that lasted until the local guard arrived.
