St. Anne's Church stands out for its bold Byzantine style, characterized by a massive bell tower and arched entrances that contrast with the surrounding village-like houses of the Butte-aux-Cailles. Architect Prosper Bobin designed the structure in the eighteen nineties to serve the local working-class community. Its construction faced frequent delays due to the unstable, honeycomb-like soil beneath the neighborhood, a result of centuries of limestone quarrying. Workers eventually anchored the foundations into the solid rock deep underground to keep the walls from shifting.
