La Maison du Fontainier

The Pavilion of the Fontainier features a tall, pale stone facade tucked into the quiet corner of the Observatory garden. Built in sixteen thirteen for Jean Thomé, the man responsible for the Marie de Medici aqueduct, the house served as the distribution point for the Rungis spring water traveling into Paris. Thomé lived in the upper rooms while the iron pipes and basins hissed beneath his feet, regulating the flow of water to the city fountains and the royal gardens of the Luxembourg palace.
