The Hotel d Estrées displays a stark, limestone facade on the Rue de Grenelle, defined by its high, triangular pediment and rows of tall, rectangular windows. Built in seventeen thirteen for the Duchess of Estrées, the mansion shifted from a private residence to the Russian Embassy in eighteen sixty-three. Before the Russian Revolution, the Tsar's ambassadors hosted opulent balls here. Today, the building serves as the official residence of the Russian ambassador, housing a collection of art that survived the upheaval of nineteen seventeen.
