Musée Maillol

museum

The red brick facade of the Musée Maillol stands out against the pale limestone typical of the neighborhood. This building once served as a convent, but its fame comes from Dina Vierny, a young woman who was the muse and model for the sculptor Aristide Maillol. During the nineteen forties, Vierny used her home here to smuggle Jewish refugees across the Pyrenees into Spain. She later dedicated these rooms to Maillol’s work, keeping his sculptures in the setting he preferred.
