Square Marcel Sembat

Square Marcel Sembat is a triangular neighborhood park situated in the eighteenth arrondissement of Paris. It was created in nineteen thirty-one and serves as a quiet local space for sports and relaxation. At the center of the square, you will find one of the city's iconic green cast-iron Wallace fountains, which have provided free drinking water to Parisians since the late nineteenth century. The square is named after Marcel Sembat, a prominent socialist politician and journalist who served as a deputy in the national assembly for nearly three decades. Beyond his political career, Sembat was a notable intellectual who maintained a close circle within the artistic community, most notably through his marriage to the Fauvist painter and sculptor Georgette Agutte. The couple were passionate collectors and supporters of contemporary art, and Sembat himself even authored a book on the painter Henri Matisse.
