Le Moulin Blute-Fin

The windmill you are approaching, Le Moulin Blute-Fin, was constructed in sixteen twenty-two. Its name comes from the French verb bluter, which refers to the process of sifting flour to separate it from the bran. While many travelers associate windmills with the Dutch landscape, this structure is a remnant of a time when the hilltop of Montmartre was a rural village dotted with over a dozen such mills, capturing the winds that swept across the crest of the slope. Today, it remains one of the last two surviving windmills on the butte, standing in relative quiet as a piece of private property.
