Moulin de la Galette

The Moulin de la Galette occupies a site that hosted two distinct windmills, the Blute-fin and the Radet. These structures were built in the seventeenth century as functional workhorses for grinding flour and pressing crops on the hilly outskirts of Paris. In the nineteenth century, the Debray family acquired these mills and began selling a rustic, brown bread known as a galette to visitors. This simple food item became so popular that the mill eventually took its name from the bread. Continue
