Place Dauphine is a triangular public square tucked behind the western tip of the Ile de la Cite. It is defined by rows of uniform brick and limestone townhouses, featuring steep slate roofs and tall chimney stacks. King Henri the Fourth commissioned the square in sixteen oh seven, naming it for his son, the future Louis the Thirteenth. The king sold the plots to wealthy professionals on the condition that they follow his exact architectural plan, ensuring the square kept its symmetrical, orderly appearance.
