Hôtel d'Aumont

The Hotel d'Aumont features a limestone facade marked by a heavy, arched carriage entrance that opens onto a courtyard. Built in the mid seventeenth century for the Duke of Aumont, it remains one of the finest surviving examples of a private town mansion in the Marais. Its primary architect, Louis Le Vau, designed it before he went on to build the palace at Versailles. A later owner, Pierre Terray, famously hosted grand salons here that attracted the era's most prominent writers and philosophers.
