Hôtel de Sens

The Hôtel de Sens wears a turreted stone facade that looks more like a fortress than a private residence. Built in the late fifteenth century, it served as the Parisian base for the Archbishops of Sens, who held ecclesiastical power over the city before Paris had its own archbishop. Queen Margot, the former wife of Henry the Fourth, lived here in the early sixteen hundreds, eventually fleeing the city after a servant was murdered in the courtyard under her roof.
