Académie Scandinave

The Académie Scandinave occupies the space once known as the Rue Vavin studio, a building defined by the massive, iron-framed windows that slice across its northern facade. During the nineteen twenties, this studio functioned as an art school for Nordic students arriving in Paris. The painter Per Krohg and the sculptor Jean Heiberg taught here, bringing a Scandinavian sensibility to the local avant-garde. Students worked in the light of those high windows while the neighborhood outside transformed into the epicenter of modern painting.
