Théâtre des Mathurins

The Theatre des Mathurins occupies a unique space in Paris, established in an era when the surrounding neighborhood began its transition into the bustling hub you see today. The building began its life in eighteen ninety-three not as a stage, but as a grand concert hall. It was not until eighteen ninety-eight that it officially opened its doors as a theater, beginning a century-long tradition of intimate, avant-garde, and contemporary performances. Its location on the rue des Mathurins links the site to a much older history, named for the Mathurin monks who owned a farm on this very land as far back as the thirteenth century.
