Fontaine de Charonne

The Fontaine de Charonne, once known as the Fontaine Trogneux, was built between seventeen nineteen and seventeen twenty-four to provide essential water access to the residents of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. The project was part of a larger initiative by Louis the fifteenth to construct five public fountains across the neighborhood. The architect Jean Beausire designed the structure, which drew its name from a local brewer named Trogneux who helped finance a significant portion of its construction. Throughout its history, the fountain has undergone several major interventions, including a complete dismantling and reconstruction between eighteen zero-six and eighteen ten, and it was officially designated as a national historical monument in nineteen ninety-five.
