Fontaine Trogneux (1719 - 1721)

The Fontaine Trogneux serves as a reminder of a time when the surrounding neighborhood lacked basic access to running water. Built between seventeen nineteen and seventeen twenty-one, this structure was one of five fountains commissioned by royal order to support the residents and artisans of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. Local craftsmen, including woodworkers and metalworkers who operated outside the traditional city guilds, relied on water carriers until these public taps were installed. The fountain takes its name from a local brewer who lived in the neighborhood and reportedly financed a significant portion of its construction.
