The building before you began its life in nineteen hundred and seven as the Magasins Généraux, a stark industrial warehouse designed by architect Georges Morin-Goustiaux. It earned a unique place in history as one of the very first buildings in Paris constructed entirely of reinforced concrete. At the time, its design was radical for refusing to hide its industrial purpose behind decorative facades, opting instead for a raw, functional aesthetic that catered to the barges delivering goods from the Seine directly to the nearby railway lines.
