Hôtel de Langeac

You are standing at the site of a neoclassical mansion that once anchored this corner of the Champs-Élysées. The original Hôtel de Langeac was commissioned in the late eighteenth century by a French government minister as a grand gift for his mistress, the Marquise de Langeac. Its construction was plagued by long delays, and the house stood as a testament to the shifting fortunes of its aristocratic owners before it eventually became one of the most significant addresses in early American history.
