La Fleur blanche

The facade of La Fleur blanche features a distinctive, hand-carved stone molding of a drooping lily that distinguishes it from every other building on the street. Built in eighteen eighty-four as a private residence for the painter Henri Vaneau, the house earned a local reputation for the elaborate, nocturnal salons Vaneau held in the attic studio. While the rest of the neighborhood slept, guests climbed the narrow back stairs to argue about color theory until dawn, leaving the windows glowing until morning.
