La Bellevilloise

cultural

La Bellevilloise began in January eighteen seventy-seven as a bold experiment born from the ashes of the Paris Commune. A group of twenty laborers, mostly mechanics, founded it as the first workers cooperative in Paris to provide their community with affordable access to political education and culture. They operated a small grocer shop where members took turns selling goods after work hours, and the space quickly grew into a vital hub for the neighborhood.
