Temple de la Sybille

The Temple de la Sybille sits at the highest point of the park, perched on a jagged, human-made rocky island. Its design is a miniature replica of the ancient Roman Temple of Vesta in Tivoli, Italy. Architect Gabriel Davioud completed this structure in the nineteenth century, choosing a classical aesthetic that was frequently favored by artists during the Romantic era. While it serves as a scenic centerpiece today, its presence atop such a dramatic, elevated crag was a feat of landscape engineering designed to transform a once-bleak quarry into a picturesque garden.
