Fontaine de Stalingrad

The Fontaine de Stalingrad, also known as the Fontaine Éphésienne, stands as a quiet artistic centerpiece in the square. Sculptor Georges Jeanclos created this work in nineteen eighty-nine, featuring a bronze figure at the heart of a circular basin. The figure belongs to a series the artist called his Sleepers, characters designed to evoke a sense of profound tenderness and serenity. If you look closely at the pedestal beneath the bronze, you will find small, intricate carvings representing the many breasts of the ancient Greek goddess Artemis of Ephesus. This detail serves as a symbolic bridge between the themes of life and fertility and the flowing water of the fountain.
