The building you see before you is the headquarters of the French Communist Party. It was designed by the legendary Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, who accepted the commission as a gesture of political solidarity and notably waived his entire fee for the project. Niemeyer, a lifelong communist who spent years in exile from Brazil's military dictatorship, envisioned this structure as a way to integrate bold, sculptural modernism into the dense urban fabric of Paris.
