Tomb of Amedeo Modigliani

Amedeo Modigliani lies here alongside his partner, the artist Jeanne Hebuterne. While they rest together today, their union in this grave was delayed for a decade. Following Modigliani's death from tubercular meningitis in 1920, Jeanne Hebuterne died by suicide just one day later. Her family, deeply opposed to their relationship, initially interred her in a separate cemetery. It was not until 1930 that they finally permitted her remains to be moved to this spot, allowing the couple to be buried side by side in division ninety-six.
