Tombe de Gioacchino Rossini

The tomb you are approaching belongs to the Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, known for his masterful operas such as The Barber of Seville and William Tell. While his name is inscribed on the stone, the site remains empty. Rossini was originally laid to rest here in the Père Lachaise Cemetery following his death in 1868. However, in 1887, his remains were exhumed and transported to the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence, Italy, to be interred among other national heroes. Despite this, his original Parisian tomb stands as a popular destination for music lovers who continue to leave fresh flowers and pay their respects at this landmark.
