The Studio des Ursulines occupies the site of a former seventeenth-century convent. When it opened as a cinema in January 1926, it immediately established itself as the first venue in France dedicated entirely to avant-garde and experimental films. Its founders, actors Armand Tallier and Laurence Myrga, rejected mainstream commercial entertainment in favor of a space for the artistic elite, attracting figures like Man Ray and René Clair to its inaugural screenings.
